Vassilis Skoulas, the host, is one of Crete's most famous musicians. He has played his Lyra all over the world and collected plenty of golden CDs.

In the center of the hotel ground there is a small pond which is home to turtles, fish and ducks.
A large part of the ground is a botanic garden with 25 local species of plants, some of them existing only in  Crete.
The multilingual library provides more detailed information.
By the facility's northern edge there is a look-out platform, and beside it there is a Byzantine church.
